About KT

Hi there! I’m Karen Templer, a multi-disciplinary creative. Always on the hunt for a new challenge, I’m extremely fortunate to have built a practice that ranges from design, at one end, to writing and editing at the other — with art direction, styling and photo editing spanning the whole. While my work varies in format (from websites to books to consumer goods), it largely inhabits the DIY realm of food, home and garden, and slow fashion.
Some projects span weeks or months; others become years-long entrepreneurial endeavors, such as Fringe Supply Co. (2012-2020) and Readerville (2000-2009).
I occasionally consult with other sustainable small businesses I believe in, if I feel I can be of genuine help to their success, but am not currently taking new long-term clients while I focus on some projects of my own. That said, feel free to send me an email at karen@kt.studio if you have a potential collaboration or consultation in mind.

Books & Magazines
I’ve created more than a dozen books so far — working variously as managing editor, editor and/or author, as well as being responsible for final photo edit/lineup on all of them. I’ve done decor books with Sunset Books and Weldon Owen/Pottery Barn and cookbooks for Sunset and Weldon Owen/Williams Sonoma. And in 2002-03, I edited and published a literary magazine, The Readerville Journal.
I hope to start another book project soon.

Solo Knitting Patterns & More
I also have a number of standalone knitting patterns available via the Ravelry marketplace. Apart from the Seasonless patterns, the Anna Vest pictured above is by far my most popular design!
While I rarely post to my older blog, KT’s Slow Closet (formerly known as Fringe Association), there are also many patterns and tutorials available there, and the site still gets visited by hordes of people every month. I hope you find something useful in the archives!
